The round table with English experts
Last week the Human rights organization of the Law Institute lecturers and students held the discussion with participation of the Amnesty International researchers Heather McGill and Natalia Prilutskaya. Before the beginning of round table the British guests and the group of correspondence department students of the Law Institute attended criminal court hearings that took place in the most up-to-date district federal court of Krasnoyarsk region - the Soviet and Central district courts of Krasnoyarsk city. The international organization researchers tried to observe first-hand the justice rendering process in Russia and find out its issues in order to draw up a report and suggest ways to resolve the problems. It is pleasant to note that it was challenging for British experts to reveal law-enforcement defects while inspecting the courts consisting from judges, prosecutors and advocates who are mainly our Institute graduates. Nevertheless, the international human rights activists were shocked by the lasting terms sentenced for the drug dealing; they mentioned more privilege status of a prosecutor rather than an advocate, etc. The round table passed off in the assembly room of Krasnoyarsk Center of nuclear energy information. Alongside the British experts the event visitors were federal judges in honorable discharge Andreeva Tamara Dmitrievna and Gavrilenko Olga Anatolievna; a head and docents of the Law Institute Chair of Criminal procedure, LLMs A. Nazarov, L. Mayorova, A. Brester; the students of our Institute, journalists of the ‘Eight channel” and other mass media. It was pleasant too that presentation of the foreign experts (attached below) concerning international standards of fair trial was not revelation for the Russian participants. Our Institute has strong Chair of International law; interesting international projects of cooperation therefore our students and lecturers were familiar to all of presented materials. The foreign visitors attentively heard the judge performances that had administrated justice for the long time and presented complicated and accountable work of lawyer in a long robe. This is the most beneficial and important element regarding the materials demonstrated to our students by the honourable guests participated in the round table. Translated by Sergey Nikitenko |
