Winning the "Model of the International Criminal Court - 2016"

The student team of Law Institute (SFU) – 3rd year comparative law department students: Yevtugina Anastasia, Mikhaleva Anastasia, Nikitenko Sergey, Kazachkova Daria, team coach PhD, Tereshkova V.V. – took the second place in semi-final of the international contest "Models of the International Criminal Court - 2016".

The three winning teams are invited to Hague (The Netherlands) to participate in the final of the contest. There are: 1.The Volga Federal University (Kazan’). 2. Siberian Federal University (Krasnoyarsk). 3. Moscow State University.

Our team has also won a special prize: Yevtugina Anastasia was the 3rd best speaker. She presented the position of the state “Junkel”, on which territory an international crime was committed.

We would like to say huge thank you to the director of our institute, professors and teachers from comparative law department and criminal procedure and international law chairs. Their financial support and useful advices on the case were very important to us.

General information about the contest:

The Model has been carried out for 5 years already in Russian. It is open not only for Russian, but also for foreign teams.

Model of the International Criminal Court is an international criminal law contest in a moot court form – an imitation of hearing a case in International Criminal Court. Themodelisheldinthreestages.

At the first stage the teams prepared written memorandum from the three respective positions: representatives of a state, prosecution and representatives of the victims.

14 best teams of the first stage participated in oral rounds of the Model and spoke in front of a panel of three judges for three times respectively: as representatives of a state (state of Junkel), prosecution office and representatives of the victims.

In the semi-final panel of judges consisted of 5 judges. There were judges of International Criminal Court, highly qualified specialists in international criminal law and international law. Theyrepresented 9 countries.

At the final stage the best three teams will represent their positions directly before judges of International Criminal Court in Hague.
