The second International Olympiad for students of legal clinics "Professional skills of a lawyer" was carried outon 15-17 of May in Moscow. 47 students of legal clinics in 27 Russian and CIS universities attended it. Students and trainers from Belarus and 18 Russian regions (Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Republic of Tatarstan, Chechen Republic, Krasnoyarsk region, Krasnodar region and the following areas: Arkhangelsk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Nizhegorodets, Novgorod, Orenburg, Ryazan, Rostov, Saratov, Sverdlovsk, Tomsk, Tyumen) have arrived to the event. Babushkina Alina, Mammadzade Rauf and Jurk Daniel took part in the Olympiad representing the Siberian Federal University Law Institute. Participants were divided into 8 teams which competed with each other for 3 days. They needed to conduct interviews with the client, to develop a position in the case, to give advice to the client, and then to speak in the debate. Teamwork, which was estimated by independent trainers, alternated with presentations. As a result of 3 days of intensive work participants received certificates as well as diplomas and memorable gifts for teams, who took the first three places. The first place took the team which included Babushkina Alina, who was a representative of the Legal Clinic of the Law Institute. “I was very lucky with the team. I am very grateful to the trainers who have worked with us. We have a great opportunity to develop legal skills, to discuss with legal professionals and ask them our questions. Such communication with professionals gave us invaluable experience and motivation for further self-development.” – says Alina. It must be noted that today the Legal Clinic of the Law Institute of SFU is not only a system of providing free legal aid, but also three-tier system of education. The system which show very successful results of the work on the level of Russian Federation. Translated by Nikita Rafagudinov, Anton Karlin |
