The Mediation Centre of the Law Institute of the SFU as a structural subdivision was established by the Academic Council in 2011.

The goals of the Centre are: popularization of pre-trial settlement; conducting mediation on corporate, civil, family and labor disputes with persons and organizations; elaboration and implementation of educational programs concerning negotiating techniques and mediation; organization of scientific research and legal expertise concerning alternative methods of dispute resolutions in Russia and abroad.

Professional lawyers, who took special educational courses, work in the Mediation Centre.

Since mid-September 2011 the Mediation Centre has started its pro bono practice.

In September-December 2011 the Mediation Centre considered more than 100 applications. In most cases the lawyers of the Centre succeeded in professional dispute resolutions.
