On 2-14th August of 2016 traditional summer law school was held in the Law Institute SFU. A lot of people such as students from Russia and Germany and specialists from Russia, Australia, Great Britain and Germany participated as well. This year the summer school took place on the basis of our Institute. Its program covered three directions: 1. Summer school for students of comparative law department of Law Institute SFU and for students from the partner Universities of DSG program (Barnaul, Irkutsk, Kemerovo, Omsk and Tomsk). As lecturers there were professors and staff members from Passau University – professor Holm Plutske and assistants Christian Geints, Michael Ripl, Anna Hartl as well. Throughout two intense weeks learners of the school acquired information of international law, the European Union law, criminal law and criminal procedure. Finally, two exams within the session of DSG completed the summer school program. It is worth to notice that examiners appreciated high level of Russian students’ academic knowledge, which was reflected in the students’ positive marks. 2. The second program of the school was held as part of ten-day class module and consisted of the lectures of the Law Institute SFU colleagues – Aaron Cooper (co-director of Coventry University’s oil and gas management and energy law, Great Britain) and Gregory McGoldrick (lecturer of Seinan Gakuin University, Japan). Aforementioned program traditionally deals with English-speaking group of comparative law department. This year’s major theme was current development of ecological and international law issues. It is remarkable that not only Law Institute SFU students but also students of law department from KrasGAU participated in the summer school for the first time. At the end of the program all participants prepared presentations on the material studied and successfully passed an oral exam. 3. The third program of the school traditionally deals with German students, who visit Krasnoyarsk in order to study the basis of Russian law and to get acquainted with Russian culture. This year students from Potsdam, Berlin, Hamburg, Muenster, Passau and other German cities, and also from the Sorbonne University (France) participated in the summer school. Annually the graduates of the DSG program perform as associate professors for our foreign guests. This year the basis of criminal, constitutional and civil law of the Russian Federation were taught by PhD in Juridical sciences, associate professor A. F. Vasil’eva, assistants A.A. Gabov, A.V. Pushkina, A.V. Metelkin, by the graduates of the DSG program E. Saponchik, G. Yakoby, A. Trophimic, and V. Astashova. Legislative Assembly of Krasnoyarsk region and Law Institute SFU maintain cooperation also within the summer school – it is not the first time when German students hear lectures on the basis of Russian criminal law read by the graduate of Law Institute SFU, the consultant of expert and legal department of Legislative Assembly of Krasnoyarsk region, Y.M.Ploshkina. Yana Michailovna helped to organize the meeting of Russian and German students with a deputy of Legislative Assembly of Krasnoyarsk region Y.N.Shvytkin, during which there was maintained a discussion. A lot of attention concerning the work of the school is also paid to development of intercultural communication skills, but the program itself is quite filled. The students of the school were visiting Krasnoyarsk museums, going to fun park “Bobrovy Log”,conquering Siberian “Stolby” and taking pictures of “Tsar fish” after the classes. All German students are required to study Russian language as well. The summer school would not reach success without support of the German academic exchange DAAD fund and without longtime partnership between Passau University and Siberian Federal University. Once again Law Institute SFU welcomed with great pleasure participants of already traditional summer law school. In a period between 4 and 16 of August participants from several countries and cities are to immerse into uneasy world of Russian law. Foreign guests are also to learn complicated Russian language. We intentionally hid the school students’ “distribution”, since this year was marked not by reduction of the guests and lectors, but by significant extension of the event coverage. This year apart from invited associate professors from our partner Passau University (Germany), lectures for English-speaking part of comparative law department were read by our British colleagues, scientific staff from Coventry University – Cooper Aaron Martin and Lowe Daniel Matthew. Among the participants there was also a tendency to increase in the number of guests – along with German students who came to faraway Siberia, three students of Osh state Law University Kubatov Nurdamir, Omurzakov Mirsadyk and Murzakulov Talgat showed eagerness to study the basis of Russian law. The program of this year became even more eventful. Prosecutors-, advocates- and judges-to-be had to pass three courses of activities. Russian students of German-speaking group of comparative law department ought to pass a ‘basis of German law within DSG program’ course. English-speaking group traditionally works with specialists in common law. German students, as always, work with the graduates of DSG program, studying criminal, constitutional and civil law, and also learn Russian language. The cultural component of the summer school includes numerous excursions to Legislative Assembly, Ethnography museum, museum of Surikov, visits to “Stolby” and museum of Astafiev in Ovsyanka village. Obviously, we can’t omit the fact of informal communication between the summer school participants, which also adds a lot of positive emotions in already pleasant atmosphere of the school. German and Kyrgyz students point out Krasnoyarsk being the city of contrasts. Along with modern infrastructure, there are old buildings, emphasizing centuries-old culture of the city. According to the student’s opinion, they would like to visit national reserve “Stolby” again and again. They also were fond of spending time at Memorial of V.I. Astafiev, Ovsyanka village. We have already introduced our Kyrgyz colleagues, now we would also like to pay attention to German guests of our city. This year Krasnoyarsk welcomed 15 German students from all over Germany. It is worth to notice that the tradition of prevailing representation of Passau was quite successfully breached this year. Only six students represent our partner University. Other participants study at their homeland in Bonne, Heidelberg, Stuttgart, Marburg, Frankfurt and Darmstadt. Each year the summer law school in Krasnoyarsk becomes more popular, and, as Kyrgyz students fairly noticed, after such warm welcome at the centre of Siberia, students and staff of Law University will be greeted in each educational institution in the world. Thus we are going to put our efforts in further keeping up with pace chosen this year. We would like to notice that the students were prepared to the lectures of professors Cooper Aaron Martin and Lowe Daniel Matthew from Coventry University because of the fact that in spring semester they studied “International legal aspects of the human rights theory” course in English language (professor V.V. Tereshkova). Student press service was established in December 2011 as a unified informational centre of the Law Institute of the SFU. Nowadays the press service includes three organizational departments: Student website editorial team, Translation Centre and Student newspaper “Lawyer”. Thereby, the Law Institute of the SFU has a sterling student organization, which main function is to inform employees and students about everything connecting with extracurricular life of the Law Institute. Moreover, thanks to the Translation Center, press service activity became wider. Today student press service is making a website not only in Russian, but also in English and in German. Only students of the Law Institute are involved in Student press service activity. Another distinctive feature is special training courses designed specifically for students working in the press centre of the Law Institute. Members of the centre participate in different projects, connecting with legal consulting, assistance and other important activities of the Law Institute of the SFU. Law Institute’s SFU site is not an exception. In the purpose of timely deployment and updating information about out of studying life of the Institute in December 2011 was established student editorial team as a department within the Student Press Service. The specific of this edition is that the internet space requires a special form of writing articles – "the minimum amount - maximum of information." Students who work in the format of blogging, efficiently search deals with any news of facts that require to be immediately covered on the website of the institute. Students’ editorial team is also doing an immediate design and editing sections. Since March 2012 this department is headed by the 3nd year student of the law department Tatiana Borisova.

The Centre for Translation aims many interesting and challenging tasks – translation of the Russian newlines on the website in English and German, cooperation with foreign guests, translation international conferences in Law Institute SFU etc. The Centre for Translation currently has two divisions - English and German, and it is planned to create Chinese division. Since the new entity is still young, the most important task is the recruitment of new staff and training them the basics of literary translation. Together with the editorial, The Centre for Translation organizes various seminars, training courses, presentations and much more for employees! Full operation work of The Centre for Translation will start from February 2012. We welcome all interested students!

Student Editorial Board of the Website In fact, nowadays Internet resources appear to be a key source of information. The website of Law Institute at Siberian Federal University is not an exception. In December, 2011 the Student Editorial Board of the Website was created as a part of the Student Press Service in order to provide publishing and updating information about the extracurricular life of the Institute. The Student Editorial Board of the Website task is quite special compared, for example, to newspaper editors` job, since the cyberspace requires using a «minimum length – maximum information» approach in writing articles. Students working as bloggers have to search on-the-spot news to publish them immediately on the Institute Website. In addition, the Student Editorial Board of the Website develops its design and edits the sections. So far, the Student Editorial Board of the Website is headed by the Assistant of the Law Institute Director, the Assistant of the Foreign and Comparative Law Department, Oleg A. Yanov. About us Modern realities create specific requirements for the media. They must not only be responsive and mobile but also need to be socially oriented. In order to fulfill these requirements many media create units, which are monitoring changes in the blogosphere so mass media go beyond the scope of one particular state, thereby being fixed at the international level. Given these trends, in December 2011 it was decided to abolish the existing news bodies, which inform students and teachers, and to create a single informational body of the Law Institute. Student press service is intended to be such body. Today the Press-service includes three units: Editorial staff of Law Institute’s web site, Translation center and a Student’s newspaper "Jurist". Thus, there was created a full student organization, which main function is to ensure the integrity and availability of all information associated with the extracurricular life of the Law Institute. In addition, owing to the Translation Center, activities of the Student press service are expanding noticeably. Today, the Press service is conducting Law Institute’s web site in German and English. It should be noted that the significant advantage of the Press-service is its personnel structure: only students of the Institute carry out all activities. Of course, as any other university body, the Institute’s management supervises student government to some extent, but these relationships are as close as possible to the most preferable shape of interaction. The head of the Press service is Shipunov Kirill, who is a third year student of Comparative law department. A distinctive ability of the Press service may be its refresher courses, which are designed specifically for students who work for this body. All employees take part in projects directly related to the legal counseling and other socially significant activities of the Law Institute. In conclusion, Student press service of the Law Institute can be called a successful launch pad for the student who plans to be in demand in the future. Translation Centre History The idea to create the Translation Centre emerged for a long time. But only in 2011 students of the Law Institute closely approached this. Under the careful tuition of the comparative law department student Elizabeth Saponchik the Translation Centre has become a structural unit of the Law Institute’s press service and have been fully operating since February 2012. Interacting directly with foreign visit-professors the Center members continue actively show their worth participating in annual International Summer Law School and International Social-legal Congress on Family Law. Furthermore, together with editorial office of the newspaper and website advanced training courses and various seminars are organized for the translators. Today the Translation Centre consists of 20 initiative students of the Law Institute with high-level knowledge of English and German languages. Law Department of the Law Institute of the SFU
The Law Department is one of the main structural subdivisions of the Law Institute which mission is is to train highly-qualified specialists in the sphere of Law, International relations and Customs Law. In 2010-2011, there were approximately 1500 students in the Department of Law (723 – full-time students, 886 – distance learning students and 202 part-time students).Pursuant to the Decision of the Scientific Council of the SFU dated 28 February 2011, the full-time Faculty of Law and the part-time Faculty of Law were merged into the Department of Law of the Law Institute of the SFU. In 2003, Russia joined the Bologna Process aimed at harmonizing European education standards of the European countries and the complete integration into the European higher education community. By implementing Bologna Declaration Siberian Federal University and, in particular, the Department of Law introduced a two-tier system of higher education (Bachelor’s degree programs and Master’s degree programs) and created conditions for recognition of the SFU Diplomas of High Education abroad. In accordance with the national education standard, students of the Department of Law of the Law Institute of SFU pursue degree in the «Jurisprudence» course (Bachelor’s degree program), «International Relations» course (Bachelor’s degree program), and «Customs Law» specialty. Bachelor’s degree is the first stage of the educational program. This program lasts 4-5 years and enables students to pursue basic higher education. Bachelor’s degree gives the graduate a right to get positions which require the higher education in accordance with qualification requirements, or continue education in the Magistracy of the SFU or other universities, including the foreign ones. The Department of Jurisprudence organizes short-term educational programs (course «Jurisprudence») for those who have first higher or special education. Student’s education is financed either out of federal budget or according to the corresponding contract on the full cost-recovery basis. Education on the full-recovery basis is provided by the Department of Law on all specialties, courses and types of education (full-time, part-time, distance learning). Tuition costs are estimated on the basis of university’s costs on student’s education. Since 2009 the Law Institute offers tuition discounts for students who passed their exams with «excellent», «excellent» and «good», «good» marks. These discounts are aimed at social support of the students, as well as at the increase of motivation in successful mastering of the educational program. The Department of Law provides all necessary conditions for the preparation of highly-qualified graduates. There are 14 professors, doctors of law, 68 associate professors, and candidates of law. Prominent scholars and practitioners of scientific and governmental agencies are invited to conduct several courses. Professors of the Law Institute created methodological materials, video lectures, textbooks and monographs. Courses are conducted with the application of modern equipment and the newest teaching methods and technologies. Library of the SFU provides every student of the Department with the basic and additional educational and methodological literature, textbooks, reference books as well as the scientific literature and journals, which are necessary for pursuing knowledge in all disciplines. Apart from general disciplines of higher education, students of the Department have an opportunity to attend courses aimed at acquiring additional professional skills. These courses are «Professional skills of a lawyer», «Defender in the criminal procedure», «Evaluation of evidence by advocate in the criminal procedure», «Registration law practice», «Inheritance law practice» and others. After attending theoretical courses students pass their internships. It is aimed at testing, expanding and consolidating knowledge, acquired during the theoretical courses, and also at pursuing necessary skills and working experience on the chosen specialty. In 2011, agreements on internships of students studying on the «Jurisprudence» specialty/course were concluded with the Arbitration court of Krasnoyarsk Krai, the Notary Chamber of Krasnoyarsk Krai, Department of the Ministry of Justice of Krasnoyarsk Krai, Regional Prosecutor's office, Department of the Federal Bailiff service of Krasnoyarsk Krai, Siberian Central Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Department of the Federal Tax Service of Russia in Krasnoyarsk Krai and other law-enforcement agencies (organizations). The high level of the Law Department student’s knowledge is proven by the number of granted scholarships. In 2010, student S.V. Kuznetzova became the laureate of the State (Presidential) Scholarship, student I.V. Matyzin was granted Vladimir Potanin Federal Scholarship, 73 students became Oxford-Russia Fund scholars. Full-time students of the Department of Law participate in the scientific researches, Russian and international conferences, as well as take active part in the university’s social life. The Law Department of the Law Institute of the SFU offers a plenty of career opportunities for the graduated students. Our graduates work in justice agencies, prosecutor’s offices, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Federal Security Service, Federal Penitentiary Service, tax services, auditing services, advocates’ offices, notary offices and customs. Moreover, graduated students apply their knowledge and skills in banks, insurance companies, leading regional industrial enterprises, commercial companies and other structures. Successful careers of our graduates are based on the high level of university education which is provided by the Law Department of the Law Institute of the Siberian Federal University.
