American and Russian participants will discuss what the alumni should be able to do for being “needed” on the labour-market, and how to make educational programs more effective for achieving this goal.

The American side is represented by three brilliant lawyers. Mira Gur-Arie – the Director of the International Judicial Relations Office of the Federal Judicial Center, who was working in Russia from 1996 to 1999 and was one of the initiators of the law-clinics development. Sally Rider, the specialist in the civil procedure, is the Director of the William H. Rehnquist Center on the Constitutional Structures of Government and the Deputy Dean of the Arizona College of Law on administrative matters. Kay Kavanagh, the professor of the Arizona University, is the Deputy Dean of the Arizona College of Law on scientific work.

The Russian side is represented by active lecturers of the Law Institute of the SFU, who specialize in different legal areas.

During the seminar the participants will consider different techniques of the practical education: interactive lections, case studying, brainstorm, discussions, working in small groups, business games. They will discuss the possibilities of these educational technologies’ application in the scope of separate courses and also the possibilities of interdisciplinary courses’ creation.

Besides this, the participants will discuss the details of the interactive lessons’ planning: goals determination, formulation of anticipated results, preparation of presentation and working out the interactive part of the lesson, including working out cases and materials for the business games. According to the results of the seminar the participants will work out at least three practically oriented exercises, which they will use in education process till the end of the academic year.
We express hope that this seminar will lay the foundation for further fruitful cooperation between the law schools of the Arizona University and the Siberian Federal University.
